Rumor – iWatch delayed to Q4, only 6m units to ship in 2014

According to TPK, the company that’s reportedly in charge of producing silver nanowire ink for Apple’s iWatch, the watch will enter mass production in the final four months of this year and not in the third quarter as previously expected.

TPK, which expected solid profit in Q3 because of the deal with Apple, has now reevaluated things with a higher Q4 profit expectation. The reason – TPK expected the Apple iWatch to enter mass production in the third quarter, not the fourth one. With this development doubts have risen as to whether Apple can build the quota of iWatches it needs to meet 2014 demand.

Apple to release 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to mitigate fading iPad sales, convert Android owners

iPhone 6 concept, 3D rendering
Apple is gearing up for the launch of the iPhone 6 in September and has reportedly placed a massive order of between 70 and 80 million units — far more than any previous iPhone launch. As we’ve previously reported, the iPhone 6 will step up to a much larger 4.7-inch screen with a sapphire front panel — but curiously, there’s now a very solid rumor that there will also be an iPhone 6 with a 5.5-inch screen. At first blush, a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 sounds utterly crazy, but it makes a little more sense following Apple’s earnings call on Tuesday: Last quarter, Apple’s tablet sales dropped a massive 19% sequentially and 9% year-over-year. Perhaps fading iPad sales are the reason Apple is finally looking at large-screen phones?

Android L review

Android LApple isn't the only firm to announce a major update to its mobile OS this month: Google has been busy, too. At its annual Google I/O developer conference, the company announced Android L – the follow up to Android Kitkat – which we've been using courtesy of an early beta on a Nexus 7 tablet.
It's all about "Material Design" with Android L: a new, cleaner look that, in conjunction with a revamped set of animations, gives the OS a more modern feel. The design draws heavily on Google Now's card-based design; expect to see plenty of rectangular panels whizzing around the screen.
Despite the cleaner, flatter visuals, though, there's some depth to Android's new visual approach: by allowing developers to specify the position of UI elements with Z (depth) as well as X and Y co-ordinates, Android L's flat elements have the ability to rise and slide above the other elements, with subtle effects such as drop shadows giving the feeling there's more to the OS than simply minimalism.
